S T O R Y
From 2002 to 2020, we, along with our wonderful staff, successfully operated Aspect Design Gallery and Gallery Salamanca, both located within Salamanca Arts Centre in Hobart, Tasmania.
Sadly, our businesses were severely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. At the height of the pandemic, our leases were at their end and with an uncertain future ahead, we made the very difficult decision to not renew and to close both locations.
Heartbroken and needing something to look forward to, we purchased an Aussie-made Trakka van with the intention of taking an early retirement and living the #vanlife dream of exploring our amazing country of Australia.
In December 2020, we made our way to NSW to pick up our van and bring it back to Tasmania. But...we got waylaid (by about 4 months) due to our reluctance to face our "new" life without the galleries, along with falling in love with the Victorian coast, especially the Mornington Peninsula and the charming seaside village of Sorrento.
Almost immediately upon visiting Sorrento, we both intuitively felt we could live and resume our art gallery business here (while still maintaining our beloved Tassie home). With an apartment for sale and a space for lease, we thought...what the hell?
We contacted our long-time employee, Glenda, and our key artists and makers who we've represented for many years ~ and Curate Art & Design was born.
Please stop in and say "Hi" if you're in the Sorrento area. We'd love to meet you. And since most of our former customers call Victoria home, reconnect if we know you already.
Thanks for reading. We look forward to welcoming you soon,
Mitch & Deborah
