Jim Stagg, dear friend and legendary artist, leaves us wanting more.
Jim Stagg
1954 ~ 2024
"There are going to be some pretty amazing sunsets when he gets up there, but fewer masterpieces in this world."
Saying farewell to our friend, artist Jim Stagg, has certainly been sad and very difficult, but at least now, this legend of a man is resting peacefully, and we're taking great comfort in that.
We met Jim many years ago and represented him in our Hobart gallery. And after several years of a successful partnership, we parted ways, only to reconnect when we moved to Sorrento on the Mornington Peninsula, where we opened our gallery, Curate Art & Design.
It was serendipitous that Jim and his lovely wife, Trudi, were residing in one of the neighbouring suburbs. And we were so fortunate to rekindle a stronger friendship and to represent him once again.
Jim has always said that he's not prolific, but he paints all the time, with most of his paintings taking months to complete. And you can see why when you view his work. His composition, attention to detail, humour, skill, and imagination (I could go on and on) are truly remarkable. He's one-of-a-kind and will be sorely missed.
As I was going through his work to make a video celebrating his legacy, I kept thinking to myself that I wish he had created more. I know we would have all loved to have seen more brilliantly painted canvases bearing his signature. There's no doubt they would have been incredible, just as he was and will continue to be ~ eternally living on through his artwork.
And we're taking great comfort in that.
Our love and heartfelt condolences go out to Trudi, Nick and family. 🩵
